The universal charger for smartphones, an initiative of the European Commission, arrives. Indeed, a first copy of the magazine was offered to Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the European Commission. The principle is simple enough: fourteen manufacturers - Apple, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei Technologies, LG, Motorola, Mobility, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research In Motion (RIM), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, TCT Mobile (ALCATEL mobile phones), Texas Instruments and Atmel - signed an agreement stating that they would offer phones compatible with the universal charger in 2011.
The standard chosen is the Micro USB, which is already used on many smartphones, and manufacturers will therefore initially be integrated directly taking Micro female USB adapter with either offer their products (think Apple obviously). The goal is to reduce waste and simplify life for users.
For waste, it is quite simple: change your phone often involves changing charger, although it is not systematic. To simplify life, it is quite logical: no need to have a charger per appliance, one model for the whole family is enough. Incidentally, the Chargers should have a minimum efficiency and will prevent waste by cutting completely when there is no phone connected.
Remains to be seen how manufacturers will respond: a one time selling Nokia phones without a charger under the guise of "Green IT" indicating that users already had a compatible charger for the brand, but without reducing the price ...
