During a pre-briefing on new proposals for the PC business, Dell has confirmed the development of a 10-inch tablet with Windows 7. The slate will be limited to just enterprise users and will be based on a design suitable for all workers who require greater mobility and specific skills for data security.
The launch date has not yet been set but the American company says that will be available later this year. Dell will not be the only one with a similar solution but will add to several other manufacturers who intend to provide a tablet with its Windows operating system. Past experience with mix of hardware based on Intel Atom platform and software platform based on Windows have not been positive.
The main reasons are to be found in a reduced autonomy and a reluctance to use quite touch. The new solutions should address both these issues even if an operating system from Microsoft "full touch" will be available only with the active Windows 8 in 2012.
