Of 3G 21 Mb / s bands 2G

Orange has announced that its tests on 3G 2G frequency bands are successful in France. In partnership with Ericsson and ST-chip HSPA M570, the operator got a download speed of 14.4 megabits / s HSPA in 1800 MHz band, traditionally reserved for the 2G. And the chip used is theoretically capable of reaching 21 megabits / sec The recovery of the frequency bands used for 2G is one of the ways followed to limit congestion in cellular networks, 2G frequencies being used less and less.

Traditionally, UMTS and HxPA use frequencies around 2100 MHz and GSM, 2G, works at 900 MHz and 1800 MHz. Experiments at 900 MHz 3G had already been done, but it is a priori a first for large-scale testing of 3G 1800 MHz. Remains to be seen whether the legislation will use the 1800 MHz 3G, which is a problem right now.

In theory, 3G 1800 MHz would cover a little better campaigns, which are now often covered only conventional UMTS (384 kilobits per second).
