Thunderbird 5.0: Mozilla releases new version

From 3.1 to 5.0 - the version jump is impressive, equally remarkable is the number of modifications. Proud of the 390 optimization open source mail program designed to improve speed, stability, efficiency and safety. In the new version of the summer codenamed "Miramar" is Mozilla's rendering engine "Gecko 5" is used, which also happens in Firefox usage.

Thunderbird starts up faster and responds quicker to user inputs, also can rearrange tabs. The add-on manager undergoes a makeover and now resembles that of the Firefox browser. A new API (pplication rogramming nterface) for extensions simplify, deleting and managing plug-ins. Furthermore, Mozilla has revised the setup wizard, which simplifies the configuration of new e-mail accounts.


Installed was also a help page that demonstrates solutions to common problems. For the first time Miramar supports Macs with PowerPC processor, no more. Mozilla for Mac OS X has support for 32 - and 64-bit integrated universal binaries, so that only Macs with Intel CPUs use the mail program.

The final version of Thunderbird 5.0 is translated into 43 languages for Windows (2000), Mac OS X (10.5 Leopard) and available. Follow that version 5.0 is more fast, brereits foreseeable. Miramar is the first "rapid release" of the e-mail clients. The Firefox developers have switched to shorter development cycles.
