Hybrid Cube Memory: DDR3 power 20?

While memory DDR4, supposed replacement for the current DDR3 is not expected for many months (even years), Micron has announced the HMC (Hybrid Memory Cube), a type of DRAM supposed to be 20 times faster than a DDR3 memory module. Just that. Micron said that the stack of DRAM memory chips and the integration of the logical layer within the package reduces the consumption of all by a factor of 10.

The space is also reduced by 90% compared to current RDIMM modules. Aimed initially at the professional market, this type of memory is not expected before 2015-2016. The first prototypes are however already functional ...
