Nikon Coolpix S9100

The zoom factor of the Nikon Coolpix S9100 comes with a 17.8-fold magnification for a compact camera of very high and 21-stage adjustable. The amounts to 25-446 mm (equivalent to the small format). The back-illuminated CMOS image sensor provides 13.79 megapixels. Especially at the telephoto setting of the optical image stabilizer works very effectively and allows you shake-free shots.

The Nikon has face detection, smile detection, focus tracking and the red-eye reduction on board. The camera takes videos in Full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels) and stores them in MPEG-4 format. Typical compact camera: the Coolpix can not adjust aperture and shutter speed manually. Commendable: The Nikon has a very short shutter lag of 0.25 seconds and is already operational for about one second.

Therefore, it takes about 1.5 seconds for a photo until it is ready to shoot. Although the test images revealed a high, though the Nikon had to contend with a slight edge blur, a slight blue tint and visible distortion. Video recordings shown in artificial light to flicker and sometimes revealed a slightly slow autofocus and a little slow brightness adjustment.

The stereo sound is a little rushed. The Nikon is not quite optimal in the hand as the handle bar on the front of the camera got a bit flat and is not gummed. Otherwise, the operation of the camera quickly went out of hand, because of the clear and well structured menu and the command dial on the camera back.

With a weight of 211 grams and small size (10,8 x6, 3x3, 4 cm), the Nikon can comfortably go on trips. Also helpful: The lithium-ion battery lasted a very long time in testing and created 873 images per battery charge. The Nikon Coolpix S9100 is a compact super-zoom camera that quickly convinced with high mobility and availability.

The picture quality is OK, the good and the zoom factor is very high. Shame is the lack of a GPS receiver and some options. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ22 boasts good image quality and a large equipment package. These include the built-in GPS receiver for positioning, and control the camera via an effective image stabilizer.
