Samsung has announced a new screen, the S27A850. This model works in 27-inch 2560 x 1440, as U2711 Dell 27-inch iMac or Apple, but primarily uses a "new" technology, the PLS.
The PLS Line to Plane Switching is a technology similar to the IPS but - according to Samsung - the viewing angles are even larger and the price is about 10% lower production. The technology joins the eIPS in technology close to the IPS. The PLS seems to have the same advantages as IPS, and the same disadvantages of angles very open, much more than NT, but also quite a contrast medium (600:1 in the first test).
The screen is "Edge LED" that is to say, side-lit by LEDs, and the response time measured in the tests is 7 ms. It remains to see the price of this screen, which should be lower than other similar models. This is not an evil as Dell offer the Apple 27-inch 2560 x 1440 at very high prices, it is possible to buy two or three screens of 27 inches 1920 x 1080 for price of a U2711 or a Cinema Display.
