Radeon E6760: the GPU slots

AMD has a new graphics card, the Radeon E6760. As its number indicates, it is dedicated to the embedded world and not to our PCs. So-called "embedded" are all areas that incorporate components of PC without your knowledge. It is a very broad definition, which goes from the machine in a factory specializing in the slot machine via the 3D X-ray systems for physicians.

For this very special market, AMD has in recent years of dedicated maps, which use a specific connector. Instead of using the MXM, PCI-Express or classic interface cards, the family E is in the form of a PCB to connect BGA and integrates a GPU and its memory. The only thing to do is for integrators to interface the chip and install VRM for food.

The new E6760 is based on the GPU "Turks" from AMD. She joins the E2400 and E4690 in the range of board manufacturer. The map is derived from the Radeon 6700m, has 480 "stream processor", 24 texturing units and operates at 600 MHz. Map to 1 GB of memory, the GDDR5 on a 800 MHz 128 bit bus.

The TDP of the chip, engraved in 40nm, is 35 W, which is high for this market: the old models were content to 25 and 13 W. AMD designed the chip with two targets: the devices that need a good computing power and those who need to manage multiple monitors. Indeed, the card is compatible OpenCL standard increasingly used and is also compatible Eyefinity, which allows it to support six independent screens.

The card will be supported for 5 years, as often for this type of material.
