During today Nokia and Microsoft have entered into an agreement whereby the Finnish manufacturer will go to the Microsoft Windows phone as the main operating system for its mobile phones, gradually moving away from Symbian. The smartphone will use not only Windows Mobile Phone in the future but also Office, Xbox Live, and Bing, the latter as a primary search engine, and Microsoft adCenter for ad management.
The agreement also provides that the app and content now available nell'Ovi Phone Store will be migrated to the Windows Marketplace. Bing and adCenter will integrate Nokia Maps and these will be available on all models. Microsoft, meanwhile, will gain access to the design and development of hardware platforms and further expand distribution of its mobile operating system into new countries, new languages and terminals belonging to different price ranges.
Nokia has not revealed when the first smartphone "NM" come on the market but said that just made it an exclusive partnership that does not provide long-term, using a different operating system than from Microsoft. You probably know a little more detail at the next edition of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, followed directly by the staff of Mobile.
net. MeeGo and Symbian will remain in development, but will assume other roles. A device with MeeGo arrive later this year as open-source project dedicated to the exploration of long-term market. Symbian has become mature enough to support a complete ecosystem that ensures the necessary transition for customers who have invested in Nokia products.
The agreement aims to give both companies the opportunity to compete on equal terms with the fierce rivals Nokia, while continuing to hold the championship lead as mobile phone maker, with the smartphone is in an awkward position, in the grip Apple, RIM and Google, even with Microsoft Windows phone has not yet managed to create a serious competition to fight on equal terms with the iPhone and Android operating systems.
