The Dutch navigation manufacturer announced the version 5.0 of the HD Traffic information service that sends real-time traffic information to TomTom LIVE equipment. The service was developed to offer motorists a better coverage, accuracy and re-routing for traffic delays. TomTom HD Traffic 5.0 includes a function for display of temporary road closures and localized to the affected section of the route exactly.
The improved detection of congested traffic, makes it easy to locate and to avoid congestion. The service reports earnings for the entire road network, even at the exit roads, driveways and side roads that are not covered by other technologies such as a rule. The new version also has a wider range of diversion alternatives.
The latest version of TomTom HD Traffic TomTom uses Open LR technology. Open LR provides the driver with an intelligent route guidance, which covers up to 99.9% of all roads. The technology is an alternative to the widely used method RDS-TMC. While RDS-TMC uses only a certain number of pre-coded position codes, open LR allows the transmission of information at each position on the map.
The transmitted information consists of the current traffic situation along at a certain location, traffic forecasts and special warnings. TomTom HD Traffic 5.0 is available for all TomTom devices LIVE. Motorists who already have the LIVE service package with TomTom HD Traffic receive the update automatically to their device.
