New sensor technology: Photo-Revolution? Lytro builds innovative image chip

Conventional photo sensors react to the amount of incident light and transmit this information to the camera electronics. Lytro speaks its innovative image sensor to the ground-breaking ability to register information of the light field: This is the direction from which light rays impinging on the chip, and in which wavelength and intensity.

Instead of many electronic components as in conventional cameras, the manufacturer is also increasingly use sophisticated software to process the image information in the camera. This results in images where the viewer himself can decide which part of the image he sees in full force - or if he perceives all image planes simultaneously in most details.

Advantage for the photographer: He must waste no time in snapping the recording with the Focusing on the subject, but just pull the trigger.
