A European survey conducted by Colt with 500 CIOs shows how they perceive the Cloud and its new challenges. The study by Colt shows that while most companies are still in the early stages of their implementations Cloud (only 16% made a large-scale deployment Cloud), 60% of them think that the Cloud become their primary method operational by 2014.
What is even more interesting is the balance between the five major applications "warnings cloud by these ISD Web hosting (24%), accommodation-mail (23%), accommodation databases (22%), server hosting (22%) and accommodation of storage (20%). But what makes the study especially highlighted as they are the concerns of ITs against the migration of their infrastructure in the Cloud.
If security remains the main barrier (63%) to integration problems (57%) and reliability problems (55%), CIOs are now showing more and more concerned with other issues. QoS contract and ease of transition even spend the forefront in French ISD. And if 63% of CIOs surveyed see real risks to their proper functioning in the transition to the Cloud, 42% feel they are not yet able to really assess all the risks associated services in the cloud.
It may be that these doubts are encouraging these CIOs to move more toward the private cloud. Thus, 53% of CIOs say they prefer a solution today "Private Cloud" compared to only 27% last year. It seems like the ideal compromise to satisfy the needs of cost reduction and scalability while providing the safeguards required for security screening and location data.
Last interesting information from this study, only 25% of CIOs intend to rely on a single service provider partner. 38% intend to rely on a small number of partners and 33% on an assembler of specialized suppliers in each area. The survey is available on the site of Colt for free download.
