A hard drive self-destructive

Toshiba has announced a new line of hard drives that is very "secure" according to its manufacturer. The MK6461GSYG are 2.5 "hard drives that spin at 7200 RPM and offering capacity from 160 to 640 GB 256-bit AES Encrypted hard drives have a particular set of functions to cut off access to data. The first function to delete the encryption key in software and thus cut off access to data.

The aim is obviously to enable IT departments to ensure that data are erased and avoid problems in case of theft or dishonest employee. The second function is mainly dedicated to appliances such as copiers, ATMs, and in general all devices that store sensitive data. Operation is simple: if the drive is off, the key is deleted.

This method obviously requires taking precautions with the system, inverters are required. The goal is simply to avoid theft. The last is most interesting: the hard drive erases the key if it is connected to another device that is legitimate. It allows you to protect confidential data without too many constraints.

Hopefully, the host does not have a problem ... No price announced but the hard drives went into production in April.
