X79, chipset socket LGA 2011

The future high-end Intel platform is revealed little by little. The X58 chipset will be replaced by a future x79 planned for the last quarter of this year. According to the paper published on it. com. cn, the x79 will be tailored to the Sandy Bridge processor-E LGA 2011. Designed for performance enthusiasts, it will allow overclocking of the memory and CPU.

The connection between the chipset and the CPU will be strengthened: it will be possible to dedicate four PCI-Express slots for the sole storage interfaces. Recall now the chipset is connected to the CPU in most cases by a DMI link that is other than the PCI-Express 4x, the bandwidth is too low to meet the needs of several theoretical SATA 6 Gb / s or USB 3.0.

The x79 does not always manage USB 3.0, but the SATA 6 Gb / s (max. 8 ports). The course will be x79 compatible graphics card with two (2 ports 16x) or more (4 ports 8x). It has 8 PCI-Express 2.0 ports for additional expansion. After the x79, Intel will focus on the output processors Ivy Bridge, in early 2012 with the chipsets should finally acknowledge the existence of USB 3.0.
