Drivers not to use with Firefox 4

Firefox 4 will use our PC graphics cards to accelerate rendering. But Firefox is also interested in 4 drivers and the acceleration will depend on the graphics card and its drivers. The browser contains a blacklist of drivers and graphics cards, which will help block some configurations to avoid bugs.

On Windows, you have an Intel graphics card, Nvidia or ATi. Maps of other manufacturers (SiS, Via, Matrox, etc..) Are not supported. With an NVIDIA, it takes at least the drivers 257.21 from June 2010 to the video acceleration. Moreover, in DirectX 9 cards, the GeForce 6200 TurboCache does not support acceleration.

ATI / AMD, it takes at least the Catalyst drivers 10.6 (June 2010, therefore). Moreover, it is still used Direct3D, OpenGL is disabled on these maps for acceleration WebGL. At Intel, all DirectX 9 cards are supported under Windows XP but the GMA 900 is not usable under Windows Vista or 7.

The GMA 500, GMA 950, GMA 3150, GMA X3000, GMA X4500 and GMA HD are supported on all OS. Pilots must date from September 2010 at the latest, the list is available from Mozilla. The OpenGL is not enabled on Intel chips and some variants of GMA X3000 (G35 chipsets in, GL960, and GM965) are not supported.

Finally, two systems with different GPUs are not supported, which includes machines based Optimus and some machines based on AMD's latest cards. Mac OS X Snow Leopard is required in the version 10.6.3. In addition, some older graphics cards are not supported: Radeon X1000 and Intel GMA 950.

Linux, the OpenGL cards are supported except with the proprietary drivers from NVIDIA. In any case, Mozilla explains how to override the restriction by changing the settings of Firefox. And for those whose drivers are not updated, remember that we have a section dedicated to pilots on our site.
