CPU Intel would manufacture the next iPhone

Intel processors are still absent from smartphones and tablets, but the depth could be an entry in this market through the back door. Intel is in talks with Apple to make the processor of iPhone, iPod and other iPad. But make does not mean design. Until this year Apple entrusted the manufacture of SoC A4 and A5 which are found exclusively in its iBidule Samsung.

But Apple would diversify its sources of supply, for reasons we can only assume: the inability of Samsung to produce in sufficient volume, difficulties posed by the Korean becomes a major competitor to Apple's price too high, etc. . Publicly, the two companies have recently begun to compete with rifle patents.

Gus Richard, an analyst at Piper Jaffray was told that Apple could use the services of Intel. Intel and Apple are loyal partners, the Mac using only Intel CPUs since 2006. In addition Intel still has a significant technological advantage over other casters, allowing it to burn one step finer.

Apple could also benefit from more powerful or SoCs that consume less energy and less expensive to produce. Performance, the A5 iPad 2 is indeed still etched into 45 nm by Samsung and occupies a large area: 122 mm2 53 mm2 cons for the A4 and 49 mm2 for SoC Nvidia Tegra 2. Intel could burn in 32 nm and thus maintain the surface at a level equivalent to that of the A4.

Intel is not the only founder courted by Apple. TSMC recently announced that it has developed a new etching process in 28 nm, optimized specifically for mobile processors ARM architecture. Apple is rumored to be her first customer and TSMC began manufacturing A5 processors later this year, the A4 remains to Samsung.

For Intel, this foray into the market for smartphone processors would be a good deal, especially for an important customer Apple. Until the Atom are finally able to return to smartphones.
