NVIDIA SLI certified for the next generation of AMD motherboards.

As we read in VR-Zone, Nvidia has reached an agreement with AMD for the next generation of motherboards manufacturer is licensed to support configurations with multiple graphics cards from NVIDIA. The tegnologias NVIDIA SLI multi-GPU is going through a rough patch in the AMD platform, no high motherboards NVIDIA nForce 900 series chipset sold.

Since AMD has its sights set on the market for high performance processors (which may cause the change Gamers Platform), it seems a good decision that Nvidia wants to AMD users have the option to SLI in some way . Why NVIDIA has made a proactive move: SLI licensing to manufacturers of motherboards using the same protocol used to provide support SLI on Intel motherboards Series 5 and 6.

This "move" is particularly good because NVIDIA does not need to develop a new chipset (but could) for the upcoming AMD processors (Bulldozer, "and still get benefits from the licensing of its SLI. In this way, NVIDIA SLI boards offer support basis based on the upcoming 9 series chipset, AMD (particularly in models that do not carry integrated graphics, as AMD 990FX or AMD 990x).

In addition, only those manufacturers who already have licenses SLI motherboards Intel platform, will have licenses for the AMD platform. NVIDIA calls for a commission of $ 5 per SLI certified motherboard sold. Only motherboards with this certification can use the SLI technology. For these plates, joins a special code in the BIOS.

The GeForce driver will look for this code on the motherboard SBIOS before offering the SLI feature. It is anticipated that the new AMD platform will be available from June 2011. Source: VR-Zone
