Logitech Z906 speakers replace the Z-5550

Logitech has announced the release of its new 5.1 speaker kit that comes out eventually replace Z5500 six years ago. The Z-5500 are known to be home theater speakers interesting. Many use them on their computer and even in their living room. Successors Kit Z-680, they represented good value for money, but disappointed because audiophiles mediums too low.

At that time, the Z-5500 we were also seduced (cf. "kits 5.1 Logitech Z-680 Z-5500 VS). The Z906 is trying to renew the experience again the ingredients that made the success of its predecessor. We find similar enclosures of 67 Watts RMS for satellites and 165 watts for the subwoofer and the amp that has the same inputs (coax input, RCA and 3.5 mm for the management of six channels) with not one, but two optical connections and more.

There still large absent. First, there is no HDMI. The amp is finally unable to decode DTS-MA or Dolby True HD. We understand Logitech. This kit is a classic 5.1 system for gaming and watching DVDs or movies encoded in Dolby Digitial and DTS, which continue to predominate. Switzerland believes that the people who watch a Blu-ray deck or use their own amp to decode the new formats.

The problem is that the Z906 scratches like its predecessor which was a cheap home cinema kit capable of supporting the multimedia needs of average households. We would have liked to see two more satellites and management of audio formats so dear to Blu-ray. The new kit gives the impression of an evolution, as we saw two years after the release of a successful product and not six years.

In short, for a kit that looks to date from 2007, the price of 349 € may be harder to swallow. Logitech will market later in March.
