Intel will begin shipping the new revision of the famous and Cougar Point failed chipset from next Monday 14 February. B3 revision is pin-compatible with the previous B2, so that there will be any change in the base plates. Knowing what was at stake with the disadvantage in its chipsets for socket plates 1555 (number 6), Intel has worked quickly to resolve the problem faced by the poor performance of port SATA 3Gbps (SATA II) under these chipsets.
According to the PCN (Product Change Notification or registration of changes in the product) of Intel, the changes are as follows: The identification of the revision changes from 04h to 05h BIOS Update (Revision 1.1.4 of the specification and code update reference) The new revision B3 and B2 are pin-compatible Minor changes in the metal layer of B2 to B3 revision that improves the lifetime (by reducing the degradation of the chipset) with no change in functionality or design specification Of these, the only one that provides interesting information the user is the last, which seems to have solved the problems discussed above.
