The Intel chips for smartphones

Intel has announced the first chips from Infineon's mobile division. The company introduced the X-Gold 706, a module in 40 nm etched supports 2G, 3G and LTE. This is the big brother of X-Gold 626 released last year with the LTE and more. Intel hopes that the brands of smartphones already using the old model will transition to this new chip providing the LTE level 1 to their client.

He also spoke of a LTE modem using a PCB of less than 700 mm ² LTE compatible category 3 (100 Mb / s downlink and 50 Mbps upstream speed). The first examples of testing this modem will be available during the third quarter of this year, followed by mass production in the second half of 2012.

This announcement is largely symbolic as it marks the arrival of Intel in a market that has long coveted. There is no doubt that the two products presented were already under development before the takeover and they come from the laboratories of the German. Nevertheless, they mark an important milestone for the firm of Santa Clara who has vowed to conquer this sector, which escapes him.
