IBM has announced new servers that use its high-end processor, the Power7. The servers are approaching what IBM offered with Watson, who won the computer cons of human Jeopardy!. Both new models are the BladeCenter Express PS704Express PS703. The second is a dubbed version of the first and thus offers performance doubled.
The PS703 has two sockets and accepts Power7 to 2.4 GHz, 8 cores each is capable of running four threads, resulting in 64 threads on the model PS703 and 128 threads on the PS704, with 4 sockets. In terms of memory, the limit is 128 GB on the PS703 and PS704 on the 256 GB. As seen, if the number of cores is interesting, the frequency is low enough for Power7, capable of over 4 GHz in some servers.
Yet if the Power7 is one of the most powerful processors of the moment, winning Jeopardy! with a computer is not within reach of every budget: the version of the least expensive devices based Power7 worth nearly $ 30 000.
