In March 2009, Cisco bought Pure Digital Technologies, the firm at the base of a social phenomenon: the pocket camcorders. The Flip Video has indeed been on the front of the stage for a few months, both small devices (about the size of a phone) have been successful. The videos in HD (720p) swept YouTube and other companies (Kodak, among others) have followed this path on Cisco.
However, Cisco has announced the end of "Flip" and the cessation of production. Cisco is refocusing on its traditional markets and the world abandons the public. The reason is obviously easy to find: for two years, smartphones have become very popular and filming in HD without any problem.
While many models are confined to 720p (as Flip), some even go to 1080p already. And even if the Flip is simple to use and offer optical stabilization, users still prefer to be confined to a single device ... In fact, Cisco continues FlipShare program (online video sharing) with its partners, but the products themselves disappear.
