In an interview with the Financial Times, Franco Bernabe said that content providers must make a contribution to the development of the Internet. According to the CEO of Telecom Italy and Chairman of the GSMA (Association of mobile operators), content providers like Google, Facebook and Apple can not continue to take advantage of free internet lines, but should begin to give a financial contribution.
"They use our networks, but not heavily contribute to the development of such needs. Telcos can provide new high quality services to content providers to better serve consumers. And, of course, these services will be paid.''The manager has made these statements ahead of the summit organized by the EU Commission with the managers of the leading telecom operators and content providers of primary to be held next month.
