The saga continues. While AMD continues to assert that its processors require a bulldozer AM3 +, Asus has released a list of motherboards with socket AM3 "compatible" with future AMD CPU via a simple BIOS update. This list consists mainly of top models and high-end chipsets using current 890FX and 890GX: The existence of this list is very surprising because the + and AM3 socket AM3 differ physically (an additional pin on the AM3 +).
This compatibility announced by Asus presupposes that AMD would use this pin to finally not distinguish physically Bulldozer Phenom today. A definitive clarification of the share of AMD would be welcome.
