Virgin Media, the UK provider, announced it has launched the first tests of cable Internet access to 1.5 Gbit / s download and 150 Mbit / s upload. That would be the cable connections the fastest in the world according to him. Cisco has conducted similar tests on U.S. data rates of 1 Gbit / s. English tests will first be limited to four companies in the Silicon Roundabout London's famous for the presence of many leading companies on their Internet activities.
Virgin uses fiber to the node connection, then a high quality coaxial cable between the node and the user's modem. The network is compatible with DOCSIS. The aim is to show that it is possible to obtain speeds similar to a network consisting entirely of fiber optics. The advantage is that it would be easier to install according to the company that says average households could benefit from the same infrastructure that companies participating in this test.
It does not, however, date of deployment.
