Nvidia launches its GeForce GTX 590, the most powerful graphics card in its class. We've had the opportunity to show it through the many leaks that have followed in recent weeks. The official launch allows us to discover the last two remaining unknowns: the price and performance. The price fixed by Nvidia is 650 € or 50 € more than the Radeon HD 6990 from AMD.
This difference is justified by Does performance? The answer is difficult to give as both cards are neck and neck, and take turns leading the ranking based on games that are considered. We invite you to read the full review by Chris Angelini Tom's Hardware U.S.. Than performance, include two other selection criteria: consumption and noise levels.
The power consumption of the GTX 590 is a big disappointment: it manages to engulf 437 W (Metro 2033) or even more than the overclocked Radeon HD 6990 (432 W)! We then said that Nvidia had to make an honest mistake without his knowledge by tapping the TDP on the sheets: the GTX 590 is announced in advance when AMD 365 W 450 W and is very close to our measurements.
The good surprise comes from the noise. Like the GTX 580 before it, the GTX 590 is quiet, very quiet even in terms of its power: our test machine was generating 47.6 dBA supported. The same machine with a Radeon HD 6990 amounted to 57.6 dBA (62.3 dBA even if overclocked). In short, the choice between AMD and Nvidia will be based on individual preferences.
