ArcFinity: 1404 TB of storage

SGI, best known for its 3D workstations for its storage servers, offers a new range of servers, ArcFinity. The solution offers between 176 and 1404 TB TB of storage via a server-based Xeon 56xx from Intel. The system uses NFS for storage and an internal system achieves high performance using what the company calls a "primary disk cache." This is actually an ensemble of fast disk that is used as cache and the system will then move the data to the storage space conventional slower.

The system is invisible to the user, who always see the total server capacity, but allows the cache - as SGI - high performance. Five versions exist: the first has 156 TB and 20 TB usable cache with two Ethernet jacks to 1 gigabit per second and twice at 10 Gbit / s. The second pass to 234 TB usable (20 TB of cache) and always twice 1 GB / s and twice 10 gb / s.

The third bay reaches 468 TB for users with similar characteristics. The fourth provides 936 TB of storage, a cache of 40 TB and eight network connections: four 1 Gb / s and four 10 Gb / s. Finally, the last model reaches 1 404 To be used with a cache of 60 TB Twelve interfaces for connecting the device to the network: six 1 Gb / s and six to 10 GB / s.

The price is not available, but IMS is designed to replace tape storage and explains that the system can store 10 billion photos on Facebook.
